13. Vermont

If you love the redness of the autumn leaves you’ll definitely love this state. The beautiful hills, farmland and forest of the state transform from lush green to vibrant red and orange in the autumn months. Meaning there will be a lot of pictures to be taken. Just like Nebraska, the state is rather calm and subtle. If you are an outdoorsy type of person you will love this state. The lakes here are a wonderful place to be in the summer months. And in the winter months you can enjoy all that snow up in the ski resorts, or maybe just go ice-skating on a lake with your grandkids.

Vermont is considered to be a relatively expensive state to retire, although in smaller towns you can retire for relatively less. So be sure to choose carefully.
