Another great perk of retirement is discounted or free public transport. As we become older, our eyesight and general health may stop us from driving, but that shouldn’t stop you from getting out and about.

While taxis are often too costly for someone on a fixed budget, a free bus pass can be the golden ticket. Many states give out free transport to seniors, and in Miami-Dade County, everyone can use this benefit.

In other states, such an Illinois, the rate of discount depends on your income. You’ll need to check with your home state, city, or county to find out what discounts apply to you.

On top of this, many transport companies have their own policies on senior discounts, too. For example, rail service, Amtrak offer travelers over the age of 62 a 15% discount.
