2. Colorado

As you might have guessed, Colorado and its Rocky Mountains are known for the awe-inspiring views. The temperature here can best be described by the phrase “best of both worlds”. Mostly it is comfortably warm and sunny, while still letting you enjoy the wonderful snow up in the ski resorts. And if you are not fond of skiing, then do not worry, the state has plenty of other activities to offer you. The great weather lets you spend a huge chunk of your time outside, doing what you love best, whether it be fishing, hiking or just enjoying life.

Taxes here are retiree-friendly as well. The state does not impose taxes on Social Security and pension income up to $20,000 for retirees under age 65, or on the first $24,000 for those 65 and over. And even though the cost of living is fairly high within the ski resort communities of Vail or Aspen, Colorado has plenty more places where costs are much more affordable.
