6. Service Animals

If you qualify for a guide dog or different service animal, your FSA will pay the costs of purchasing, training and care for your service animal. This will cover expenses like food, grooming, and pet care.

7. Special Education

Upon a doctor’s recommendation, if your child needs a tutor or school enrollment to help them with mental or physical impairments the costs can be covered by your flexible spending account. Additional costs include school fees, tuition, meals, and lodging if needed.

8. Smoking Cessation

The costs of joining a quitting-smoking program are covered by your FSA. But, over-the-counter drugs designed to help you quit are not.

9. Transportation

Using your FSA, you can pay for transportation that is essential to medical care. Types of transportation that full under this category include bus, plane, taxi, or train fares; ambulance services, car expenses, parking fees, and tolls.

If your doctor says weight loss will treat a disease that you have, your FSA will cover the cost of a membership to a weight reduction group.
