DEF is classed as Colorless which is more high-end, then you’ve got G, H, etc. By pushing back, a color grade or 2 you can save a chunk of money, and once the diamond is mounted on its setting it’ll be hard to notice.

However, everyone sees color differently. That’s why it’s important to view a lot of rings, so you can train your eye accordingly. While you can save money buying an I instead of a H, you should avoid going past a J rating. After J, diamonds have a yellow tinge.
