6. Never Sacrifice Cut

Yep, that’s right. You can save money when it comes to Color, Clarity and Carat. But, never take a chance on the Cut of a diamond. This is kind of a shame because the Cut can contribute to more than 50% of the price. However, there is nothing like a perfectly cut diamond.

When a diamond has the perfect cut, that’s when you get the light reflected back to you. The Cut is what determines the sparkle and shine – it’s what makes it look how you think a diamond should. At first a lower cut diamond can look okay, even good. But after time, it will get dirty and the light will get trapped inside the diamond. And it just won’t shine.

Popular cuts include the round diamond, princess cut – which is square, emerald diamond and pear diamond. Shallow cut diamonds can appear dark, and ones that are cut too deep will appear smaller than they actually are.
