7. Get an Electric Car

Pay: Gas savings, state tax credits, and federal tax credits between $2,500 – $7,500

Join the future, and leave the days of buying gas in your rear-view mirror. While a Tesla might be expensive, the U.S government is offering incentives to those who want to buy one. You could get thousands back in tax credits depending on the size of the vehicle and its battery capacity.

8. Live in a Ghost Town

Pay: Free room and board, and food costs covered

We’re not saying it actually has to be home to ghosts – just derelict. The government is willing to set you up in a furnished cabin in the abandoned town of Garnet, Montana in exchange for upkeep and giving guided tours to the public. The town has been abandoned since the 1940s when the town’s gold mine ran dry. If you’d like to experience life without electricity, Wi-Fi and running water spend a summer in Garnet.

9. Move to Another Country

Pay: Thousands of dollars per year

There are a few countries who will pay for skilled immigrants to make the move and take up residence inside their country. New Zealand, for example, is known for seeking tech professionals and offers them cash for moving down under.
