9. Open a Mobile Phone Account in Your Name

All a criminal will need to open a mobile phone account using your identity is your name, address and social security number. It doesn’t even have to be your current address, there have been cases of fraudsters using old addresses to commit this crime. Victims don’t usually know it’s happened until they receive a bill from the phone company, or until the bailiffs have tracked them down. Fraudsters will often purchase more than one phone too, they’ll have little restraint and often order a handful of expensive phones in your name. If you fall victim to this, you can call the phone company’s fraud department and let them know what’s happening. It’s also a good idea to write a follow-up letter so that the situation is clear.
