12. Collect Store Reward Points

These days almost every grocery store has some kind of rewards or points scheme. So, if you aren’t already a member you could be missing out on some serious savings. Next time, when the cashier asks if you’d like to join, say yes.

At some stores, you can get 2% instore rewards for every dollar spent, if you spend $1,000 per month, for example, you can get $240 worth of free food every year – and that’s without a single coupon.

At Safeway, every $1 you spend will place one point on your store points card. Then, once you reach 100 points, you can save $0.10 on every gallon of gas you buy at Chevron, Texaco, and Von’s gas stations.

But don’t confuse these points cards with rewards credit cards. Store rewards points cards are free to use, and to sign up all you should need to do is hand over your name, address, and phone number.
