16. Freeze Perishable Goods

If you got a great deal on some perishables and bought a little extra, it’s a good idea to put them in the freezer to make them last longer.

For example, with meat, you should portion it up and put it into freezer bags, and next time you make meatballs you’ll have the perfect amount. Hamburgers and other ground meats will last up to 3 – 4 months in the freezer, and steaks and roasts will last you a whole year.

Freezing goods leads to less waste, and you can do the same thing with vegetables, fruit, and herbs. Herbs like oregano and basil are quick to turn bad, but if you place them into a pot in your freezer, they’ll taste great for weeks instead of days. Vegetables will usually last 8 – 10 months in the freezer, and you can make it easier on yourself by chopping them up before you freeze them.
