5 Ways to Earn Money from Your Old Electronics, Books and Gift Cards

December is the perfect time to get rid of your old things and make room for the new gifts you will receive this Christmas. Instead of throwing away things you no longer use, you can make good use of one of the following Trade-In programs to make money from your old stuff. It’ll be good to make space in your home, and it never hurts to have a little extra cash during the holiday season.

1. Amazon Trade-In Program

Trade For: Amazon Gift Card

Amazon is starting to offer so many more services than just stuff selling great stuff. You can now trade in your old things in exchange for an Amazon Gift Card. And, they’ll even pay for your items to be shipped. Amazon will take older items that other retailers won’t. The full list includes:

  • Books
  • Cellphones
  • Tablets
  • Laptops
  • Video Games and Consoles

If some of your trade-ins are things that you have previously purchased from Amazon, you will be able to automatically view the value from your purchase history on your Amazon Account. This makes trading your items very easy, and you’ll know exactly how much money you can make.

2. Gazelle Trade-In Program

Trade For: PayPal Funds or Amazon Gift Card

Gazelle operates in a similar way to Amazon, except they are a lesser-known company. You might even be able to make more from Gazelle, depending on the item. So, it’s always a good idea to do some price comparison before committing to a trade-in. The items you can trade-in with Gazelle are:

  • iPhones
  • iPads
  • iPods
  • Apple Computers
  • Samsung Cell Phones
  • Other Cell Phone (Nokia, Blackberry, HTC, LG, Motorola)
  • Other Tablets (Amazon, Asus, Google, Microsoft, Samsung)
  • Apple TV or Apple Display

While this list is a little more specific than Amazon’s, Gazelle will allow you to trade-in non-working items, too. Once you’ve decided on what items you’d like to trade in, Gazelle will send you a package to ship your items in, free of charge. In return, you can choose between an Amazon Gift Card or funds sent to your PayPal account.
