4. Your Injury Lawyer Might Not Charge You at All
In some cases, the attorney agrees to collect a reasonable hourly fee from the losing side. It’s not a common situation, therefore circumstances may be strict. In Texas, there’s an actual rule for that! It’s called the “loser pays” rule, which was expanded in 2011.
Note that even if your attorney agrees to do this, if your settlement or verdict is taxable, you may have to include as income the fees they collect from your case. Once again, you have to discuss this with your attorney in the first place.
