2. Senior Citizen Cards for Medicare

Once you start to claim Social Security you will receive your Medicare card. Medicare is a government-run health insurance program for people over 65, and those who have been claiming Social Security since they were 62-years old. The red, blue, and white Medicare card acts as proof of your Medicare insurance, and it’ll show which type of insurance you receive.

Part A Medicare insurance means that you have hospital insurance, and Part B that you receive medical insurance. Whenever you are using services at the hospital, doctors, chemist etc., make sure to show your card. You don’t need to apply for this card either, if you’ve been automatically signed-up for Medicare, you’ll receive your card 3 months before your 65th birthday. However, if you are not enrolled in Social Security yet, you should call your local Social Security office to sign-up.

3. Use Your I.D

To get other discounts it’s as simple as using a form of I.D that shows your date of birth. Many retailers, restaurants, and grocery stores will give a senior discount, but note that sometimes you’ll need to ask for it, instead of it being offered. Additionally, some restaurants will offer senior loyalty schemes where you might need to apply for a card, but at most you’ll just need to prove your age.

So, remember, it’s not about having a physical card, you’ve already earned the discount by growing to a certain age – you just have to prove it. To find out all of the places that offer the best senior discounts, read our article 15 Discounts Seniors Get Only If They Know.
